About the Team
The Youth Team has responsibility for the work undertaken in the Youth Portfolio which includes the following key focus areas:
- Youth development – to support young people to attain life skills, develop the knowledge and confidence needed to be involved in community life and to respond to issues impacting their lives. A number of service agreements and grants are provided by Communities to support this.
- Youth engagement – to provide opportunities for young people to be involved in decisions that affect them, whether this is at a State or local level - such as the Ministerial Youth Advisory Council.
- Positive promotion of young people – initiatives that promote and value young people for who they are and the positive contributions they are making, such as Youth Week WA.
- Advocating on behalf of the needs of young people – raising awareness with stakeholders of the needs of young people, particularly related to services and decisions that affect them, such as the WA Youth Action Plan 2024-2027, Koorlangka Bidi.
Shape the future for young people in WA.
As a Policy Officer (Level 5) or Senior Policy Officer (Level 6) in the Youth Team, you’ll contribute to policy and strategy that directly improves outcomes for young people aged 10–25. Working in a dedicated youth portfolio, you’ll undertake policy development, research and analysis, and provide strategic advice on issues that matter to young people—supporting their participation, amplifying their voices, and promoting their contributions across the community. This role will suit candidates who are genuinely motivated to work in youth policy and make a meaningful impact, rather than those seeking a broad policy pool or pathway into other portfolios
