About us
The Department of the Premier and Cabinet supports the Premier as head of the Western Australian Government. The Department is a central agency that leads the public sector in providing advice and support to the Premier and Cabinet in their service of the Western Australian Community. We foster a workplace culture based on our core values, Leadership, Connection and Impact. For more information about the Department, please visit our website.
The Office of the Coordinator General (OCG) works to support Western Australia's ambitious energy transition, decarbonisation and economic diversification goals. With a focus on industrial land activation and facilitation of selected high-priority projects and precincts, the Coordinator General supports the State to rapidly pursue opportunities and grow its competitive advantage. The Coordinator General is an independent statutory office holder responsible for determining how regulatory, planning and approval systems are coordinated and reconciled in practice for selected Priority Projects and State Development Areas.
About the roles
Western Australia is entering a new era of clean energy and industrial transformation, driven forward by the Office of the Coordinator General. This year under the new State Development Act 2025, the Western Trade Coast has been announced as WA's inaugural State Development Area, and eight Priority Projects have been announced, including a low-emission steel production pilot, and multiple wind farms and Clean Energy Link projects across WA. These are the roles that work across government to help bring these projects to fruition.
Under the State Development Act 2025, the Assistant Coordinator General - Priority Projects, and Assistant Coordinator General - State Development Areas, operate under delegation from the Coordinator General. These senior executive roles sit at the intersection of regulation, infrastructure, industry and government. While you will not manage projects on behalf of proponents, you will lead and coordinate the systems that make complex, high-stakes projects and precincts progress efficiently, transparently and on time for the benefit of all Western Australians.
What we're looking for
These are rare executive roles that carry statutory weight and demand both strategic authority and operational resolve. We are seeking leaders who can navigate the intersection of government, regulation and major industry, while ensuring environmental, social and community safeguards are protected and respected. These positions drive outcomes through influence and by building enduring cross-agency relationships grounded in integrity and trust.
To succeed in this role, you can:
- Lead with influence — drive complex, multi-stakeholder outcomes across regulatory, planning and major project environments without direct authority
- Shape strategy and advise decisively — provide authoritative advice to Ministers, Cabinet and senior decision-makers with sound whole-of-government judgement
- Navigate complexity with confidence — take decisive action under uncertainty while balancing regulatory, environmental and community considerations
- Connect across boundaries — engage authentically in culturally and socially complex stakeholder environments, building trust and enduring relationships
- Build and grow leaders — develop high-performing teams and lift leadership capability across agencies, consistent with the Building Leadership Impact framework and the Executive Leader context
