About us
Treasury is at the centre of Government decision-making, is responsible for managing Western Australia’s public sector finances and formulating and implementing the annual State Budget.
As the principal economic and financial advisor, we develop economic and revenue forecasts, and monitor developments in the State’s economy, major revenue bases and public sector finances, to ensure Western Australia remains on track against the State Government’s budgetary objectives and policies.
Our policy advisory role covers a wide range of issues, including Commonwealth-State financial relations, revenue policy, advice on alternative models of service delivery, infrastructure provision, and more.

The opportunity
2025 Summer Placement
From Monday 9 December 2024 to Friday 21 February 2025 (eight-week fixed term opportunity and a three-week unpaid break from Monday 23 December 2024 to Friday 10 January 2025).
2025 Winter Placement
From Monday 16 June 2025 to Friday 18 July 2025 (five-week fixed term opportunity).
The Treasury Vacation Internship Program is your beginning to a future career in the WA public sector. Through our program you will gain valuable knowledge and skills working for one of Western Australia’s central public sector agencies whose work and advice is fundamental to the Government’s decision-making processes that impact the people and communities of Western Australia.
Our program is designed to enhance your learning and development and provide you with real exposure to a professional working environment in the public sector. The work may include undertaking research, undertaking analysis of financial and/or economic data, providing policy advice, co-ordination or collation of information, liaising with stakeholders to obtain or relay information, preparing written submissions and/or undertaking project work. Every day is different at Treasury.
We strongly encourage applicants to participate in both programs (10 weeks in total), giving you maximum exposure in developing your skills, knowledge, and experience as well as providing the foundations for future roles at Treasury.

About you
If you are a university student in your penultimate or final year of an undergraduate or postgraduate degree, then this program presents an exciting opportunity for you to explore our unique position as the State’s pre-eminent economic and financial policy advisor.
We are looking for resilient individuals who are adaptable and flexible, able to respond positively to changing work priorities, as well as work independently or within a team environment to achieve agreed outcomes. Having the ability to think strategically, undertake research, gather and disseminate information is key to this role.

Eligibility requirements:
- you must be a current university student in your penultimate or final year of study,
- undertaking a minimum of a three-year undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (Accounting, Finance, Business, Commerce, Economics, Actuarial Studies, Law, Public Policy, International Relations and Data Science or Mathematics); and
- have an academic status of ‘good standing’.
International students can apply for this program; however, you must have working rights for short term employment in Australia and will be required to provide evidence of this as part of your application.
Appointment to the program is based on your capacity to undertake the role at the level required and commensurate with the Treasury Capability Framework.
