The Role and our Branch

The Financial Policy and Governance Branch is part of the Financial Services Directorate and is responsible for:

  • development, implementation and monitoring of policies, procedures, guidelines and standards that support the Finance and Commercial Services Division
  • development and maintenance of financial policies for schools and associated guidelines
  • development of specific Departmental policies and guidelines including gifts, travel and hospitality
  • development, implementation and coordination of the school compliance review program.

The Senior Financial Policy Officer is responsible for the development, interpretation and administration of corporate and financial management policies and procedures for central services and schools.

As the Senior Financial Policy Officer, you will provide specialist services including the development, implementation, monitoring and review of financial management policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Australian equivalents to International Financial Reporting Standards, the Financial Management Act 2006, Financial Regulations, Treasurer’s Instructions and other related legislation.

You will offer branch support by developing, reviewing and maintaining the financial management manuals for central services and schools. You will also liaise with customers and provide stakeholder support by developing key relationships with stakeholders in contributing to the activities and direction of the Directorate.

Eligibility and Training Requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • hold relevant tertiary qualification in business, commerce, finance or related field or equivalent substantial experience
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check if required

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
