About the Role
As an Electrical Rollingstock Technician at the PTA the successful candidate will carry out heavy maintenance, routine servicing, modifications performing electrical/mechanical fault rectification procedures on safety critical train systems. The incumbent will maintain an effective and reliable level of operating performance on the PTA’s Australind and Prospector diesel Rollingstock fleets to comply with national Rail Safety Standards, industry best practise and customer expectations. This position reports directly to the Rollingstock Shift Supervisor and is situated at the Kewdale Prospector Maintenance Depot.
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this position you must have:
Essential
- A trade qualification of WA ‘A’ Grade Electrical Licence and high-risk work licence along with technical trades experience;
Highly desirable
- Experience in Electrical Rollingstock principles and in the maintenance, service, repair, overhaul and inspection of Rollingstock.
- Experience with the service and repair of Safety critical components such as electric over air pneumatic braking systems, door controllers, couplers, engines and transmissions, automatic train protection (ATP) and communication systems, wiring and fault finding, static inverters and HVAC systems.
- Extensive fault finding knowledge and experience over 24VDC, 110VDC, 240VAC, 415VAC Rollingstock electrical systems including but not limited to HVAC systems, door control systems and lighting systems and components including power generation equipment like alternators and the diagnosis and repair of 24VDC engine control wiring.
- Experience in heavy maintenance component renewal/changes including wheelsets, bogies, HVACs, engines, transmissions, SIVs, alternators, couplers and cooling group components.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret technical drawings and plans and use the appropriate test equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and conduct in process fault finding.
Working a 4-week rotational roster that incorporates one week of night shifts, subsequent allowances and rostered overtime, in this role you will potentially earn circa $120k pa plus 11% superannuation.
There is one permanent shift work position of 38 hours per week, available for an immediate start. All applicants must have a current Western Australian ‘C’ or ‘C-A’ Class Driver’s Licence or equivalent and must be willing to work and attend callouts at unsociable hours.
Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool for 12 months from which permanent appointments will be made.
