Wanted: Principal Surveyor & Senior Inspecting Surveyor
About the roles
Landgate has an immediate opportunity for the Principal Surveyor and a Senior Inspecting Surveyor to join the Location Services business unit. We encourage suitably qualified and experienced Licensed Surveyors to apply for this pool.
Landgate’s cadastral survey inspection function provides a critical role in land boundary certainty, which underpins a secure land titles register, and the value of property in Western Australia.
The Principal Surveyor and Senior Inspecting Surveyors apply qualifications and significant expertise to undertake complex work involving:
- maintaining cadastral frameworks
- inspecting cadastral surveys, plans and field records
- facilitating survey and plan registration
- ensuring quality cadastral data
in support of land titling, land development and positioning of location data.
In addition to the above, the Principal Surveyor carries out the statutory functions of the Inspector of Plans and Surveys and applies specialist skills and knowledge to advise on legislation, policy, process and system improvements.
Landgate is seeking Licensed Surveyors with the knowledge, experience and acumen to be appointed:
- to approve plans of authorised surveys under section 18 of the Licensed Surveyors Act 1909 and
- to serve as an Authorised Land Officer under section 30 of the Land Administration Act 1997.

Role Requirements
To be successful in the Principal Surveyor role, please demonstrate that you:
- effectively deliver quality and timely outcomes
- build strategic partnerships and collaborate with a range of stakeholders
- effectively communicate complex information and provide specialist advice
- have extensive experience and specialist knowledge of cadastral surveying
- are a Licensed/Registered Surveyor with a current Practising Certificate and possess an appropriate degree
To be successful in a Senior Inspecting Surveyor role, please demonstrate that you:
- effectively deliver quality and timely outcomes
- build relationships, collaborate and communicate effectively
- have significant experience and expert knowledge of cadastral surveying
- are a Licensed/Registered Surveyor with a current Practising Certificate and possess an appropriate degree

Vacancies will be offered on a permanent or fixed term basis. This pool will be used for relevant vacancies that become available in the next 12 months.
Any recommended applicant will be required to complete a pre-employment screening process prior to appointment.
