About the roles

Landgate’s Geospatial Team are looking for a range of people to contribute to the provision of a broad range of location information services to meet the needs of the Western Australian community.

We carry out work that enables and supports Native Title, Local Government, State legislative and Crown land development processes, and topographic data capture and revision. Our work also supports Landgate as the authoritative source for all geographic names and addressing within Western Australia.

We are looking for people experienced or interested in any of the following:

Boundary Definition - Supporting key Government initiatives  and improve the quality of cadastral data across the state by producing plans, sketches and technical descriptions of land and administrative boundaries

Mapping - Creating customised maps, undertaking data analysis and providing spatial support to local and state government

Names and Addressing - Western Australian history and facilitating geographic name submissions and approvals, and reviewing allocated addressing in accordance with Australian/New Zealand standards, including providing advice and support to local government 

Topographic Maintenance - Ensuring the ongoing accuracy and quality of our topographic data to support various industries including urban planning, environmental management and transportation

Landgate has negotiable flexible working arrangements, with the potential for up to 50% working from home.

Role Requirements

As we are recruiting across our team, we have identified the core skills and specialist skills and experience needed at each level. You will need to demonstrate all the core skills at the relevant level, and at least one of the specialist skills or experiences at the relevant level.

Core Skills

To be successful in the Level 3 Spatial Officer role, you will need good:

  • Communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Initiative, problem solving and personal workload management skills.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy and record keeping skills.

To be successful in the Level 4 Senior Spatial Officer role, you will need the above skills to a well-developed level, plus:

  • Well-developed research skills
  • Well-developed data interpretation and evaluation skills and the ability to identify, investigate and resolve data anomalies.
  • Well-developed skills in interpreting and applying legislation, policies, standards or regulations.

To be successful in the Level 5 Spatial Consultant role, you will need the above skills to a high-level, plus:

  • high level skills in auditing the work of others and coaching and developing team members.

ability to support your manager in coordinating resources to ensure outcomes are delivered within timeframes.

Specialist Skills

To be successful in the Level 3 Spatial Officer role, you’ll need:

  • Demonstrated capability to learn to use new software and databases.
  • While not essential, experience in Computer Aided Design (CAD) drafting and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software or Landgate systems such as GEONOMA and ADR is desirable.

To be successful in the Level 4 Senior Spatial Officer role, you will need experience or knowledge in at least one of the following:

  • GIS software and operating systems (e.g. ArcGIS Map or Pro, AGOL)
  • Computer Aided Design (CAD) drafting software (e.g. MicroStation) or experience in land database management systems such as GEONOMA and ADR
  • Surveying or land tenure
  • Cartographic principles

To be successful in the Level 5 Spatial Consultant role, you will need at least one of the following:

  • High level of knowledge and skill in applying the principles of GIS data capture and integration methodologies, relational databases, metadata standards and the maintenance and presentation of quality spatial data sets
  • High level of knowledge and skill utilising Computer Aided Design (CAD) drafting software
  • High level of skill and knowledge of land development and land registration systems in WA

For any of these roles, while not essential, a degree (or progress towards) in a related field of study or experience with manipulation, scripting and design of land information databases (e.g. FME, Python), will be highly regarded.

The recommended applicant will be required to complete a pre-employment screening process prior to appointment. This includes provision of a current National Police Certificate that is less than twelve months old, declaration of any previous discipline or misconduct findings or allegations, and the verification of claims made throughout the recruitment process.
