About the role

This position undertakes a range of activities associated with the development, management and use of the Museum’s Aquatic Zoology fish collection. It requires the occupant of the position to develop and maintain current knowledge and expertise in the specialisation (fishes). The role includes managing the collections databases, loans of collection items and undertaking routine work associated with the collections generally.

This position is responsible for organising logistics associated with fieldwork, including liaison with communities, participating in fieldwork, organising equipment and supplies, overseeing the packing and transport of specimens, monitoring safety requirements and assisting with collections research for publication. This position will contribute to exhibitions, educational and interpretative programs and public outreach.

Eligibility to Apply

To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a valid working visa (for fixed term appointments) or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent appointments) at the time of application.

A current (within 6 months) National Police Clearance Certificate will be required prior to commencement of employment, as per the Department’s Police Record Screening Policy.

Applicants must be, and shall remain, COVID-19 vaccine compliant in accordance with the WA Government Proof of Vaccination Directions.

All applicants and employees are required to remain compliant with all laws (including public health orders and directions) regarding COVID-19.

We also require the following:

  • “C” Class Drivers Licence
  • Scientific diving qualifications
  • Ability to undertake fieldwork away from Perth

Pool Recruitment

This pool will be open for a period of 12 months from the day after the breach of standard claim period closes. Permanent, Fixed Term, Full Time and Part Time appointments may be offered as vacancies arise; however, an appointment is not guaranteed.

Applicants found suitable in this pool, may be considered for subsequent, similar vacancies with the WA Museum for the duration of the pool.
