Our graduate program has been recognised Australia wide and is a joint initiative between the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety, Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, and Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation.
The position
The Business Innovation Directorate is seeking a recent graduate with a Bachelor of Business or Commerce, or an approved equivalent bachelor degree, with a focus on data analytics, information technology or economics (bachelor degree to be completed in the current or preceding calendar year).
The Strategic Business Innovation Group supports the Department to achieve its strategic and operational objectives by focusing on a whole-of-department strategic capability and fostering innovative thinking across the department to support DMIRS in building a high performance organisation.
On completion of the graduate program you will carry out the role of Data Analyst where you will utilise your analytical skills to identify opportunities for improvement, increase efficiencies, or add value to our customers. The department holds a wealth of data that has the potential to drive economic development, reform services and add in the achievement of strategic priorities. As the Data Analyst you will be:
- Delivering agency and whole of Government strategic projects and initiatives
- Supporting the transformation of DMIRS’ services so that they are customer centric

Initial employment is on a fixed term contract with provision for permanent appointment following successful completion of the first twelve months. At the end of the program, you will return to a position in the Business Innovation Directorate.

- A copy of your academic record and evidence of your Bachelor of Business or Commerce, or an approved equivalent bachelor degree, with a focus on data analytics, information technology or economics (completed in the current or preceding calendar year).

- A cover letter (maximum three pages) which outlines the following:
- Why you are interested in working at the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety and how it fits with your career aspirations; and
- A description of your role in a project (university assignment is ok) that you have undertaken or participated in that demonstrates your research and communication skills.
