The Western Australian Museum is positioning itself through scientific and academic excellence, public programs and relevant exhibitions to keep pace with the rapidly changing face of Western Australia. The Museum has made a major contribution to the collection, conservation and research of the State’s natural and social history, maritime heritage and the cultural heritage of Indigenous communities in Western Australia.

The Western Australian Museum is part of the Culture and Arts Portfolio, brought together by the Department of Culture and the Arts (DCA). DCA is the State Government agency responsible for the Government’s support of management and development of arts and culture in Western Australia.

Conditions
This is for 2 (two) full time, fixed term vacancies for a period of 12 months, with a possibility of extension. There will also be a Pool running for a period of 18 months from the initial appointment. Applicants deemed suitable will be placed into a pool from which full-time, part-time, fixed term appointments may be made.

A current (within 6 months) National Police Clearance Certificate will be required prior to commencement of employment, as per the Department of Culture and the Arts Police Record Screening Policy. You are also required to have a current ‘C’ class Drivers Licence or equivalent.

For position number 13278 you must possess a Diving Certificate and appropriate Medical Certificate to AS2299 to be considered.

You must also have a degree or diploma in a relevant discipline to be considered for these positions. All overseas qualifications must have been assessed for Australian equivalency.

Location
This position is located at 49 Kew Street, Welshpool.

Job Descriptions
The Technical Officer (Aquatic Zoology) position number 13278 is responsible for:
Laboratory work to generate molecular sequence data for a range of Pilbara Fauna. Duties include assisting with scientific research, using molecular techniques on a range of marine taxa in the Pilbara region to determine their affinities and conservation status. You will assist with development of molecular datasets suitable for analysis, and upload them into GenBank.

The Technical Officer (Aquatic Zoology) position number 11195 is focussed on:
Field management and collections (especially molluscs and other marine invertebrates). Duties include fieldwork management and participation (including organising equipment, permits etc) data management, accessioning and identifying specimens, organising the collections, managing the databases, servicing loan requests, replying to public enquiries and assisting in research.
