Rockingham Senior High School (SHS) are seeking to appoint a strategic, innovative and inspiring Associate Principal who will work collaboratively within the Executive Leadership Team to provide educational leadership across the school.
The successful applicant will contribute to a school culture that promotes learning embedded in a deep belief that every student is capable of success.
The Associate Principal is a vital member of the school’s leadership team. The successful applicant will work closely with the Principal and other members of the school’s staff to develop, promote and achieve Business and Strategic plans within our school community.
With a future-focused mindset, the Associate Principal will use their in-depth knowledge of best practice for teaching, learning and assessment to ensure success for all students. They should possess the ability to lead and guide teachers and support staff to plan and deliver high-quality teaching and learning programs.
The successful applicant will actively support the continued implementation of the schools Instructional Framework and the use by teachers of explicit direct instruction as a school wide pedagogy.
As an integral member of the executive leadership team, the Associate Principal will lead and develop innovative solutions; establish and maintain collaborative and productive relationships with stakeholders, and build a culture of professional excellence with leaders, teachers and allied staff so that students are future-ready and able to contribute effectively in the wider community.
The successful applicant should possess outstanding data analysis skills and the ability to apply this to improve student performance and achieve enhanced academic outcomes. They will be working to support and build staff knowledge and understanding of initiatives that have been identified and are being implemented through a professional learning community (PLC) culture throughout our school.
Knowledge and proficiency in all functions of Student Information System (SIS) time-tabling, Reporting to Parents and the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) and Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) dashboard will be an advantage.
The Associate Principal should have an extensive understanding of all School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) requirements for the Year 7 – 12 curriculums, assessment and reporting. Knowledge and skills in leading the development of a School Business Plan and a firm understanding of the strategic planning and processes that underpin an effective school is advantageous.
Rockingham SHS is currently involved in the Fogarty Edvanced program. Through this program we have developed a clear Strategic Directions document based on our Business Plan, our data and evidenced based best practises. The current Business Plan and Directions documents are attached.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
