The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation and the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety have come together to create an award-winning interagency graduate program.
The Department has an internal and interagency graduate program that successful applicants will be considered for during this recruitment process.
About the Interagency Graduate Program
Our award-winning 18-month graduate program aims to build the skills, experience and networks required for a successful career in the public sector. A customised rotational plan exposes our graduates to a range of opportunities across the public sector. Initial employment is on a fixed basis with the provision for permanent appointment following successful completion of the program.

We are looking for the following graduate officers for our 2023 program.
The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation are looking for graduates with a bachelor degree completed in 2021 or 2022 in the following (or similar) fields.
- Science (Environmental Science, Data Science, Health Science, Physics), Arts (Urban or Regional Planning), Law (Commercial or Business), Design (Landscape Architecture), Engineering (Civil or Mining), Business or Commerce (Economics, Finance, Marketing, Communications, Business Analytics) or an approved equivalent bachelor degree.
The graduates will carry out a range of functions during rotations through different divisions of the department, and possibly through other WA Government departments before returning to a position in the Industry, Science and Innovation Group.
Industry, Science and Innovation Group
The Industry, Science and Innovation group collaborates with industry, government, research and innovation sectors to diversify the economy and create jobs through improved local industry capabilities and participation. It also promotes WA’s defence and science industries and innovation capability and capacity.
Industry Development Division
Industry Development Division (IDD) builds the capability, capacity and competitiveness of Western Australian businesses by working collaboratively with other government agencies and the private sector. IDD also works with designated industries to grow the economy and create employment; develops strategic partnerships to encourage sustainable economic growth; and maintains and develops a legislative policy framework for industry development.
Defence West
The Office of Defence West is the State’s principal agency to promote, plan and grow the defence industry and defence support sector in WA as part of the State’s economic diversification strategy. It does so through working with industries to assist in guiding their development to be competitive for defence work, to lead the planning and strategies with various stakeholders towards defined economic objectives by 2030 as could be derived through defence projects and programs within the State and to work closely with other WA agencies and Defence in the identification of strategic defence infrastructure requirements for which WA might be uniquely situated to provide or host. The office also works to consolidate its position as the nation’s premier naval shipbuilding and sustainment centre, as well promoting WA in the other defence domain areas of cyber, space, land and air.
Science and Innovation
The Science and Innovation Division works collaboratively with industry, government, research and the innovation sectors to diversify the economy and create jobs through the development of Western Australia's scientific and innovation capability and capacity. The group also provide policy advice and support to the Chief Scientist of WA.
