Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies throughout the health service. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised vacancy, then the next most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of six (6) months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment decision.
Position Profile: We are seeking to appoint a suitably experienced and enthusiastic person to the position of Aboriginal Mental Health Officer. You will play an integral role of the culturally secure services provided by Wungen Kartup.
You will also liaise and negotiate with Aboriginal families, communities and health professionals in Western Australia for the development, planning and implementation of culturally appropriate mental health services.
Your additional responsibilities will include providing support and cultural expertise to Wungen Kartup through:
- co-case managing a caseload of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients;
- counselling;
- support;
- community development;
- inreach support;
- education;
- training services; and
- clinical/cultural consultancy
Area Profile: Wungen Kartup translates to 'Place of Healthy Minds' in Noongar language and is an Aboriginal Community Mental Health Service which provides culturally appropriate mental health care to Aboriginal people across the Perth metropolitan area.
Located at Royal Perth Hospital, Wungen Kartup provides statewide consultation and liaison with service providers and the community, advocacy for Aboriginal consumers, and operates as a peak body for Aboriginal mental health professionals.
Wungen Kartup will work in partnership with other services to enhance the provision of culturally appropriate care for Aboriginal people. The service will provide clinical support to assist Aboriginal clients to access the most effective care pathway regardless of factors such as co-morbid health issues, homelessness and/or substance abuse.
