This is a pool recruitment process (Ref 01194). This pool will run for a period of twelve (12) months and may be used to fill ongoing fixed term contracts, secondments, acting/relieving and permanent opportunities (full and part time).

There is currently one (1) six (6) month contract/secondment opportunity available with the possibility of extension.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Legal Services Division is searching for dynamic and experienced lawyers to join our team.  The team provides support across the WA Police Force in relation to, and advising on, criminal law, the criminal investigation statutory frameworks, complex regulatory frameworks and general public liability.

The Team is diffused between three Perth CBD workplaces, and any successful applicant may be required to work at different locations dependent on tasking requirements across the various areas of law. The successful applicant will show an ability to work in a team environment and at times autonomously with the support of a direct supervisor.

THE ROLE

The successful candidate will have a genuine interest in the areas of law practiced at the WA Police Force and be able to take existing legal skills and apply them in a law enforcement environment. 

The ideal candidate will be able to:

  • Research and prepare advice on law applicable to policing.
  • Represent the agency in courts and tribunals as counsel appropriate to level. Preparing and arguing matters in courts and tribunals.
  • Build and maintain relationships within the agency and with external stakeholders.
  • Negotiating the resolution of legal issues.
  • Providing quality research reports, briefing notes, verbal presentations, letters and formal legal advice.
