About the role
ChemCentre is seeking an experienced and motivated Team Leader to join our Scientific Services Division.
Reporting to the Director, Scientific Services Division, you will provide leadership for ChemCentre’s emergency response capability—ensuring it aligns with strategic objectives and supports strong cross‑agency collaboration. You will lead a high‑performing team delivering specialised scientific services for hazardous material (HAZMAT) and chemical, biological and radiological (CBR) incidents to protect human and environmental health.
In partnership with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, you and your team will provide expert analysis, advice and mitigation strategies in support of the State Hazard Plan - HAZMAT to support decision‑making during critical incidents.
You will represent ChemCentre on technical and government committees, build productive relationships across agencies, and provide clear, evidence‑based advice to clients and stakeholders. This role offers the opportunity to drive innovation in emergency response and make a meaningful contribution to safeguarding the community and environment.
You must hold a current WA driver’s licence and participate in HAZMAT/CBR incident response activities, including mandatory participation in a 24/7 on‑call roster. This may include intrastate deployment at short notice.

This position is a permanent full-time position.

The position is located in Building 500, Resources and Chemistry Precinct, Manning Road, Bentley.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a permanent position, Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency is essential.

Prior to commencing employment, a National Police Clearance and Fitness for Work (alcohol and drug testing) will be required for a successful applicant.

Essential Criteria 2: Effective leadership and management skills including personal resilience, and the ability to develop these capabilities in others to sustain team performance and wellbeing in emergency response
Essential Criteria 3: Possessing and applying expert chemical knowledge and interpreting scientific data to make defensible decisions to resolve complex chemistry-related issues in a HAZMAT/CBR context.
Essential Criteria 4: Experience in initiating, leading, and managing research and investigations that enhance emergency response procedures and capabilities.
Essential Criteria 6: Ability to develop and deliver HAZMAT/CBR training activities to build a highly capable and responsive workforce.
