About the Role
We currently have opportunities available in our Graduate Engineer (Civil) program to offer recent university graduates who have completed a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil)
Applications will also be considered from current students who completed their degree by July 2026 for our mid-year intake or will be completing their degree by December 2026 for our 2027 intake.
This is a three-year rotational program, providing practical learning experiences in a range of specialist areas that are not only relevant to your qualification, but also to your strengths and interests. A 12-month rotation in one of our regional locations is a component of the program, fast tracking your development and experience in engineering projects that impact our communities.

To be considered for our Graduate Engineer (Civil) Program, you must:
- Be a recent university graduate (within 2 years from completion of your Bachelor’s degree) or have your degree completed by July 2026 for our mid- year intake or will be completing your degree by December 2026 for our 2027 intake.
- Be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Be motivated to work at Main Roads, demonstrated through your strengths and personal attributes
- Have a career interest in civil engineering and a desire to work in regional areas
- Have strong problem solving skills, including embracing change and challenge
- Be great at working together in teams
- Be able to build relationships with stakeholders
Please submit the following documentation in your application:
- A copy of your completed Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and your academic transcript. Applicants that are currently completing their studies are to submit their most current academic transcript. Overseas qualifications will need to be accompanied with confirmation of Australian equivalency.
- A current CV
- Proof of Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency
- A copy of your current WA Driver’s Licence (or approved equivalent)
- A cover letter outlining why you are interested in working for the Main Roads Graduate Engineering (Civil) Program, and provide an example of how you demonstrate the following qualities:
- When you have worked in a team environment creating successful outcomes
- Used your communication skills through work, university or other areas to clearly explain a situation or task.
- Ability to solve a problem or problems in a workplace, university or other areas you have experienced.
- Open to regional rotation within the Main Roads Graduate Program

Successful applicants will need to complete a pre-employment medical assessment and may be required to complete a National Police Check prior to appointment.
