THE JOB

Are you passionate about the environment, want to work on country and motivated to undertake training opportunities?

Working in the South West Region offers the rare opportunity to help protect and enhance one of Australia’s most remarkable natural landscapes. From the iconic Leeuwin–Naturaliste and Wellington national parks to the rich jarrah, wandoo, and towering karri forests, the region is a world-renowned biodiversity hotspot filled with pristine beaches, attractive inland waters, and extensive hiking and mountain bike trails. It is a place where your work directly contributes to conserving a unique environment, while partnering meaningfully with Aboriginal groups whose deep cultural connections to Country guide park management.

The South West Region’s key service deliverables include nature conservation, parks and visitor services, sustainable forest management, fire management, and land-use planning. The region’s headquarters is based in Bunbury. Services are also delivered via the Blackwood District, located at Busselton with work centres at Margaret River, Nannup and Kirup; and the Wellington District, located at Collie with a smaller work centre at Harvey.

With a supervisor, the Trainee Rangers will do a range of work looking after parks and reserves on Noongar country. This includes animal and plant protection, management of cultural values, construction and maintenance of park buildings and picnic areas, fencing, fire-fighting and control and support of tourism and recreation activities.
