The Office of Digital Government (DGov) is one of six (6) divisions that makes up the Department of Premier and Cabinet. DGov is responsible for leading the digital transformation of the WA public sector to support agencies in improving service delivery to the community. Ensuring that information and data collected, stored and shared by the WA Government is protected and used to improve outcomes for the community is a crucial element of what we do.
The Data Unit sits within DGov and is a multidisciplinary team tasked with improving how the public sector uses data to enable better decisions and policy. We work with a broad range of agencies and tackle some of the State’s most complex social, health, environmental and economic issues. This work underpins better strategy, operations and service delivery for the WA public sector.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced leader to step into the role of Chief Data Officer (CDO). The CDO is responsible for delivering improved data capabilities, fostering a culture of responsible information sharing within the WA public sector and executing statutory functions as specified in section 200(1) of the Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024 (PRIS).
As a member of DGov’s Senior Executive Service, the CDO supports Western Australia’s digital transformation working in partnership with senior leaders across government, industry, and other jurisdictions.
Key responsibilities of this role include (but are not limited to):
- Champion, advocate and build capability for a whole of government culture of best practice in the linkage, use and management of data, artificial intelligence (AI), and responsible information sharing.
- Execute the statutory functions outlined in the PRIS Act, including the development of policies and guidance for information sharing across the WA public sector and externally.
- Create data products and data catalogues that allow for safe and reliable accessibility of data that support the needs of government.
- Lead whole of government data linkage reforms to ensure that sensitive data is shared securely to inform policy and service design.
- Represents the Department and its interests at committees, working groups, and other forums within the State and at national levels as appropriate.
- Drive innovation, initiatives and partnerships aligned with the Digital Strategy for the Western Australian Government 2021-2025 and other government priorities.
