The Data Unit is an interdisciplinary team tasked with improving how the public sector uses evidence to make better decisions and policy. About the Role
We are seeking talented and motivated individuals with a passion for achieving outcomes to join us.
This is an engaging and multifaceted job with opportunities to work with stakeholders and shape the State’s response to emerging issues.
As part of this role, you will:
- contribute to the development and continuous improvement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) assurance processes across government,
- draft clear and practical guidance and policy advice to support safe and effective AI use; and
- review agency projects to assess risk, promote safe implementation, and support cross-agency collaboration.
This policy role supports the implementation of the WA Government’s AI Policy and Framework. AI experience is not necessary. We are looking for someone with experience in policy development and enthusiasm for learning to shape outcomes for the sector.
You will work with a team of dedicated and talented public servants who will want you to succeed in the role, and have a real passion for improving outcomes in the sector and the community.

Permanent appointment:
- To be eligible for appointment to permanent positions in the West Australian Public Sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent resident status in Australia at the time of applying.
