Are you interested in becoming a direct employee of Main Road Western Australia? We are looking for Road Workers to join our Carnarvon team on a permanent basis!

Working as part of a supportive team, you’ll work on the network to inspect, repair and construct both new and existing assets to provide your community with a safe and efficient road network. We’re looking for people with experience in:

  • Assist in the construction and maintenance of local roads, bridges, and pathways.
  • Operate construction equipment safely (e.g., tippers, skid steers, rollers, excavator, flow-cons, water trucks, etc).
  • Help with road repairs, resurfacing, and maintenance tasks.
  • Direct traffic safely around construction sites.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and work as part of a team to complete projects on time
  • Keep roadside and parking bays litter free

This transition spans all across our regional Main Roads offices, the Metropolitan area, and Incident Response Services, with over 550 new roles now filled. What We Offer

In addition to our competitive salary and 12% superannuation, our remuneration package reflects the following:

  • Road Workers base hourly rate ranges from $39.54 - $43.46 (depending on relevant experience)
  • Your starting hourly rate depends on your relevant experience and will increase by a further 3.5% on 1 February 2026.
  • Road Workers are rostered to work Monday to Friday. The roster depends on the time of year, but some weekend work may be required.
  • The roster includes at least one Rostered Day Off (RDO) per month. Dependent on the time of year, you may also have a second RDO per month, your fortnightly salary would then reduce accordingly.
  • In addition to your 80 hours per fortnight, most rosters for the next 12 months will include between 15 and 26 hours overtime (including commuted overtime) per month.
  • Overnight travel throughout the Mid West Gascoyne region may be required as part of the roster.
  • Based on this amount of overtime, Road Workers gross income is expected to range from $105,000 - $115,000 per annum.
  • The first two hours of Overtime is paid at time and a half and double time after that (including when working on your RDO).
  • Road Workers in Carnarvon are entitled to a District Allowance of $6,868 or $13,736 (if you have a dependant) per annum.
  • Road Workers in Carnarvon are entitled to annual power subsidies of up to $3,201 (dependant on the type of your power system).
  • Road workers accrue a minimum of 4 weeks annual leave, 10 public holidays, 3 additional public service holidays and 15 days personal leave per annum.
  • Road Workers are entitled to 13 weeks long service leave after 7 years continuous service.
  • Annual Leave Loading of 17.5% is paid in December each year. Shift workers may be eligible for Annual Leave Loading of 20%
  • Training and development opportunities

The salary provided is based on a Monday to Friday roster, with anticipated overtime included. Please note that, as overtime hours and rosters may vary, salary therefore is subject to fluctuation and may change accordingly depending on actual hours worked and operational needs. The exact salary and any applicable allowances will be confirmed with the successful applicant prior to commencement of employment.
