The Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia (MRIWA) is a statutory authority established under the Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia Act (2013) to foster and promote minerals research for the benefit of Western Australia.

We achieve impact through a range of activities including commissioning research and providing financial assistance for projects, delivering an annual events program, awarding PhD scholarships and initiating research and education programs targeting strategic focus areas of high value to the State.

Our current focus areas are guided by the medium to long term challenges facing the State’s minerals industry and include: net zero emission mining, green steel, exploration amplification, alternative use of tailings and waste and METS innovation.

The position
We are seeking a motivated and experienced person to fill the position of Manager – Finance and Corporate Services for an initial period of up to 2 years, full-time (75 hrs p/f) with the potential for subsequent contracts and permanency.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the successful candidate will join a highly integrated team and be responsible for leading the corporate services business area at MRIWA to achieve the strategic direction of the organisation.  You will:

  • Be the accountable financial officer and undertake Chief Finance Officer responsibilities with respect to the organisation’s obligations under the Financial Management Act 2006 (WA).
  • Oversee the implementation of the business activities related to the corporate services area, which includes but is not limited to, governance, risk management, audit, finance, ICT, procurement, communications and events.
  • Provide support and advice to the Board, Audit and Risk Committee, staff and external stakeholders to support the core business of the organisation enabling it to meet government policy expectations and statutory requirements.

This role provides an exciting opportunity for those with expertise in financial management seeking lead a small team, diverse their skills and gain experience in the broader corporate services domain.

    • A relevant tertiary qualification and full membership of an Australian recognised professional accounting body and are eligible to fill the Chief Finance Officer function in accordance with the Financial Management Act 2006 (WA).
    • Applied relevant legislation, Accounting Standards, policies and financial management processes in an operating environment, including contemporary knowledge and experience with financial management information systems for the preparation and analysis of financial statements.
    • Substantial experience in the preparation of internal budgets and financial reports with knowledge of the Government financial management framework and budget processes.
  • Your CV (maximum 3 pages) outlining your employment history and achievements relevant to the role specific requirements of this position.
  • Contact details for 2 work-related referees, with one being your current line manager.

Further in the selection process, the panel will assess your suitability for the position against a broader range of job requirements, behaviours and capabilities.  These are listed in the JDF and a link to the JDF is provided for your information. 

Please note that completion of a National Police Clearance, pre-employment Conflict of Interest declaration and qualification verification will also form part of the selection process.

This position is subject to a three (3) month probationary period.
