About us

The Department of Treasury and Finance is at the centre of Government decision-making. As the principal economic and financial advisor, we provide leadership and strategic advice and influence to support the delivery of services and outcomes for the benefit of Western Australia.

What we do is integral to the Government’s decision-making processes about where and how to spend taxpayer’s money to ensure Western Australians have access to quality services on a financially sustainable basis.

We lead procurement and leverage our buying power to secure products and services for government, achieving value for money for WA.

We collect revenue to fund government services and administer payment of grants and subsidies to the WA community.

The opportunities (fixed term/secondment – up to 12 months) and/or transfer at level for existing permanent public sector employees.

We are looking for individuals who are resilient, proactive and display a strong work ethic. You will have conceptual and analytical skills and be able to evaluate both quantitative and qualitative information and be able to communicate and present results effectively. You will be able to anticipate and manage issues, be a strong team player, with strong interpersonal skills and can work independently with minimal direction.

About the role

Treasury and Finance’s Economic Analyst roles prepare forecasts and advice on the outlook for the Western Australian economy, key export and commodity markets and what that means for State government taxes and mining royalties. They use a range of models and techniques to analyse data from a wide range of sources, as well as information gained from consulting with experts from other agencies and the private sector, to inform their forecasts and advice.

These roles provide a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of the Western Australian and global economies as well the State’s key revenue streams. You will develop your quantitative and qualitative analytical skills through exposure to a wide variety of tasks and extensive training opportunities. Treasury and Finance provides a dynamic work environment at the centre of Government decision making.
