About the role
Join our team as a Railcar Driver and play a key role in delivering safe, reliable, and efficient passenger rail services with Transwa to and from regional locations in W.A. In this dynamic role, you will be responsible for operating railcars, conducting essential safety checks, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. From preparing and assembling railcars to diagnosing faults and providing on-the-spot solutions, you’ll be at the heart of keeping our network running seamlessly. This role also involves providing excellent customer service, assisting passengers, and supporting fellow Railcar Drivers to maintain the highest operational standards.
About You!
To excel in this role, you should possess:
- Extensive experience operating diesel-powered railcars and/or locomotives, with practical knowledge of freight operations and rail safe working procedures.
- Strong understanding of personal safety equipment, site safety requirements, and emergency procedures.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to assess situations quickly and apply practical solutions to operational challenges.
- A certificate IV in Train Driving
- A current ‘C’ or ‘C-A class WA Drivers licence or equivalent.
- The ability to work shift work and/or weekends and public holidays as required to a 24-hour 7 day a week roster and be prepared to accept periods away from home if necessary.

There are two permanent opportunities available for an immediate start. This is a pool recruitment process where successful applicants will be placed in the pool for 24 months. Initially, this selection process will be used to fill the current Railcar Driver vacancies, but it may also be used to appoint to similar positions within the agency over the next 24 months, on either a permanent or fixed-term basis, with the possibility of extension or permanency.
To be eligible to work permanently at the PTA you must be either an Australian Citizen, have Permanent Residency status or hold a current visa with permanent working rights in Australia, at the time of application
