About this opportunity
Our Perth-based Electrical Control Officers play an important role in the safe operation of our urban rail network by monitoring, controlling and coordinating critical electrical systems and infrastructure (such as the traction distribution system) across our urban rail network.
The PTA’s Infrastructure Control Development Program (ICDP) provides the opportunity to develop the skills, experience and competencies required to undertake this vital role. As an Electrical Control Officer Trainee on the ICDP, you will receive a learning salary equivalent to 85% of a Level 5 Electrical Control Officer (plus any applicable shift and weekend penalties as appropriate) whilst you undertake a range of on and off the job training, with eligibility for permanent appointment to the Level 5 Electrical Control Officer role upon successful completion of the Program.
What do I need to join the Infrastructure Control Development Program
This is a great opportunity for people interested in transitioning to a career in the growing rail industry, as previous experience in rail is not necessary. We would love to hear from you if you have:
- Relevant electrical knowledge and experience, (such as experience working in a high-risk Traction Distribution or similar SCADA system) and/or experience and certification in High Voltage Switching
- Previous experience working in a safety critical and/or regulated or highly intensive environment
- Good attention to detail
- An ability to read and interpret technical instructions and diagrams
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- A can-do attitude and are a team player
- Good organisational, analytical and problem solving skills
- An ability to learn new computer applications
- A current Western Australian 'C' or 'C-A' Class Driver’s License (or equivalent).
As these positions are operational in nature, you must also be:
- Willing to work unsociable and irregular hours, including shift work and weekends
- Prepared to undertake numerical, verbal and mechanical reasoning aptitude tests and complete a preemployment medical assessment (including drug and alcohol screening).
