About this opportunity

Our Infrastructure Control team plays an important role in the safe operation of our urban rail network by monitoring controlling and coordinating critical operational infrastructure (such as fire and life safety, hydraulic, ventilation and traction distribution systems) across our urban rail network. 

The PTA’s new Infrastructure Control Development Program (ICDP) provides the opportunity to develop the skills, experience and competencies required to undertake vital roles within this team, as either a Electrical Control Officer Trainee or Infrastructure Control Officer Trainee. 

During the ICDP, you will receive a learning salary equivalent to 85% of a Level 5, Electrical Control Officer or Infrastructure Control Officer (plus any applicable shift and weekend penalties as appropriate) whilst you undertake a range of on and off the job training. Upon successful completion of the Program, you will be eligible for permanent appointment as either a Level 5 Electrical Control Officer or Infrastructure Control Officer with the PTA.

We currently have several Perth-based opportunities available on this Program, which is scheduled to commence in March 2024.

What do I need to join the Infrastructure Control Development Program

This is a great opportunity for people interested in transitioning to a career in the growing rail industry, as previous experience in rail is not necessary.  We would love to hear from you if you have if you have:

  • Previous experience working in a safety critical and/or regulated or highly intensive environment
  • Good attention to detail
  • An ability to read and interpret technical instructions and diagrams
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • A can-do attitude and are a team player
  • Good organisational, analytical and problem solving skills
  • An ability to learn new computer applications
  • A current Western Australian 'C' or 'C-A' Class Driver’s License (or equivalent).

For consideration to the Trainee Electrical Control Officer role, you will also have relevant electrical knowledge and experience, such as experience working in a high-risk Traction Distribution SCADA (or equivalent high risk electrical SCADA system) and/or experience and certification in High Voltage Switching, or other electrical knowledge and experience.

As these positions are operational in nature, you must also be:

  • Willing to work unsociable and irregular hours, including shift work and weekends
  • Prepared to undertake numerical, verbal and mechanical reasoning aptitude tests and complete a pre-employment medical assessment (including drug and alcohol screening).
