One of the Permanent Full-Time vacancies requires a Rescue Diver qualification or equivalent.

About the role

Curators in the Maritime Heritage Department are responsible for the development, curation, and interpretation of the Maritime Heritage Department’s collections. The position conducts original research and delivers public outcomes aligned to the Museum’s Strategic plan and departmental operational plan, working collaboratively within the Museum, and externally with partners and stakeholders.

About you

We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated individual who loves working in a positive team environment, enjoys a challenge and wants to make a difference.

You will have relevant qualifications in maritime heritage that will enable you to undertake a range of maritime heritage-related work around the State.

The successful applicant will be expected to:

  • Have tertiary qualifications relevant to Western Australian maritime heritage.
  • Have demonstrated knowledge of subject expertise, and knowledge of the relevant State and Commonwealth legislation.
  • Have significant skills and knowledge in contemporary collection development principles and practices.
  • Have demonstrated ability to plan and deliver projects such as research-based projects, fieldwork, collections, or exhibitions-related projects.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication and negotiation skills, including the ability to work in a team environment and present information to a wide variety of audiences and stakeholders.
  • Have the necessary diving and boating qualifications (where required) as specified in the JDF.

  1. Demonstrated skills and knowledge in the development of museum exhibitions and other museum interpretive programs.
  1. Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver projects such as research-based projects, fieldwork, collections, or exhibitions-related programs.

Eligibility to Apply

To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a valid working visa (for fixed term appointments) or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent appointments) at the time of application.

Pool Recruitment

This pool will be open for a period of 18 months from the day after the breach of standard claim period closes. Permanent and Fixed Term, Full Time, Part Time appointments may be offered as vacancies arise; however, an appointment is not guaranteed.

Applicants found suitable in this pool, may be considered for subsequent, similar vacancies with the WA Museum for the duration of the pool.
