The Role

The PTA is committed to managing its operations in an environmentally sustainable manner and minimising adverse impacts on the environment and communities. Working across the organisation, our Environmental Services Branch strives to drive positive environmental and social outcomes for current and future generations.

A permanent opportunity has arisen in the Environmental Planning and Approvals section of the PTA’s Environmental Services Branch. 

We are recruiting a Principal Environment Planner who will contribute to the future planning of public transport services on rail, coach, buses and ferries by providing specialist environmental and Aboriginal heritage advice to PTA’s business units enabling infrastructure planning and construction to proceed and supporting our construction and operational teams to comply with our environmental and Aboriginal heritage obligations and commitments.

You will lead a team of environmental professionals responsible for managing environmental impact assessments and obtaining environmental and Aboriginal heritage approvals. Consultation and negotiation with regulators and external stakeholders is an essential component of the role.

Who are we looking for?

To be successful in this position you will have:

  • Highly developed leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and develop staff, and foster strong working relationships within a team
  • Proven knowledge and extensive experience in scientific, technical and environmental issues, in the interpretation and application of environmental regulations and legislation as they affect project planning and delivery;
  • Proven performance in the preparation and management of budgets; and
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in environmental science, environmental management or related discipline.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur for up to 12 months.
