Pre-Service Teachers
Final year pre-service teachers can now apply for Limited Registration and join our Casual Teacher Pool to work in public schools across the state.
Casual teachers play an important role supporting students when their teacher is unavailable or a school requires additional support. Casual appointments can range from three hours to four weeks at a single school or educational site.
A number of schools are using the Casual Staff Seeker, our online casual booking tool that will send you booking requests via text message based on your preferences and availability.

Who can apply
Are you living in WA and are interested in casual teaching work? Are you in the final year of your education degree (Bachelor of Education or Master of Teaching) at an Australian university?
Our Casual Staff Seeker will enable you to register your interest quickly. Follow the application steps online and be sure to include all the required information outlined below.
Please note the processing time for this registration is up to 10 weeks. If you are within 10 weeks of completing your qualification, there may not be ample time to process this registration before you are qualified. Instead, we recommend you consider applying for provisional registration through the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA) and making an application for the Graduate Pool in the lead up to graduation.
Once your'e qualified, you can then register your interest to teach relief to the Casual Teacher Pool for qualified teachers.
How to apply
Step 1: Complete the Application for Limited Registration form.
There are 3 sections within the application for Limited Registration form that must be completed before you apply to the pool:
- Section 1 of the Limited Registration application
- Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check form, including four identity documents
- Verification of identity by an authorised third party
We will complete Section 2 of your application for Limited Registration and submit your application to the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA) on your behalf. We will also pay your application fee.
Do not send this form directly to the TRBWA.
Step 2: Submit your application here
Once you have completed the limited registration form, select Apply for Job at either the top or bottom of this advertisement and follow the instructions on your screen.
The following information will need to be attached in your application:
- Completed application for Limited Registration (including identity documents)
- CV/Resume
- Eligibility to work in Australia if your identification documents are not issued in Australia or New Zealand, the evidence includes:
- Current Academic transcripts including:
- credit points
- successful completion of your most recent professional experience.
- Working With Children Check (WWCC) Clearance or receipt of application
All employees working in public schools are required to hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) as a condition of employment. Further information regarding WWCC may be found at workingwithchildren.wa.gov.au.

Step 3: Create your online Casual Staff Seeker profile.
Once your Limited Registration is granted by the TRBWA you will be given access to the department’s Casual Staff Seeker tool.
This is where you can create a profile and update your availability, location preferences and other information. Schools can then contact you regarding casual teaching opportunities via text message.
Your acceptance into this pool does not guarantee that you will receive requests to work. You may also receive requests from schools in your local area but not in your selected preferences.
Employment as a pre-service casual teacher can't be used as recognition of prior learning or credits towards university studies. This includes Teacher Professional Assessment or Professional Experience units.
