Curator, Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Collections (50D)

We currently have one (1) part-time (0.8 FTE, 60 hours per fortnight), permanent vacancy for immediate filling.

About the role
The Museum’s Anthropology and Archaeology Department contributes to the collection, conservation, research and interpretation of the cultural heritage of Indigenous communities in Western Australia.
The position is a senior curatorial role in the team and works closely with the Head of Department and Senior Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) Advisor to perform a key role in the Museum’s engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, including the acquisition, curation, research and interpretation of collections.
This is a public-facing role with regular interaction with a variety of stakeholders and members of the public.

The successful applicant will have the necessary qualifications, and relevant contemporary experience as outlined in the JDF. They will be expected to:
- Represent the Museum and engage with Aboriginal community members, including researchers and visitors to the Museum’s collection areas and public spaces
- Work with Aboriginal cultural materials, images and sound archives in the collections, through new acquisitions, and exhibitions
- Contribute to the development of policies and protocols relating to the Museum’s ATSI collections
- Work with other areas of the Museum as required, including History, Maritime Heritage, Natural Sciences, Exhibition and Design, Regional Services and Learning & Engagement
Eligibility to Apply
To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a valid working visa (for fixed term appointments) or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent appointments) at the time of application.
A current (within 6 months) National Police Clearance Certificate will be required prior to commencement of employment, as per the Department’s Police Record Screening Policy.
