The Opportunity:

The Department is looking to create a pool of suitable applicants to fill immediate and future vacancies within Regulatory Services directorate for the following role:

  • Senior Environmental Officer, Specified Calling Level 3

Working in a regulatory area, Senior Environmental Officers may be responsible for the efficient and effective assessment of applications within Industry Regulation division (inclusive of the Waste, Process and Resource sectors) and within Native Vegetation Regulation division.  The Industry Regulation division has immediate vacancies to fill.

In these areas’ officers assess applications for works approvals and licences or permits across the State and within target timeframes. Officers will provide oversight and review of operational environmental management of activities subject to an approval and review the implementation and environmental effectiveness of decisions.

Senior Environmental Officers work independently with a range of stakeholders to undertake complex assessments, provide, and develop high quality regulatory and operational policy solutions, and are central to supporting team operations and a staff development.

Work related requirements

  1. Demonstrated ability to plan and manage projects, project outcomes and to monitor individual and project performance.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously or part of a team, make operational decisions and implement strategies to meet priorities, deadlines, and departmental objectives.
  3. Demonstrated ability to understand and apply legislation, research, and critically analyse complex issues and to develop, review and implement policy, process and procedure.
  4. Demonstrated ability to perform advanced environmental assessments and review environmental assessment and licensing documents produced by others.
  5. Demonstrated experience in mentoring and supporting staff and encouraging a work environment which transfers knowledge and skill with a commitment to self-learning and professional development.
  6. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and provide a senior level of representation and negotiation.
  7. Bachelor of Science or equivalent. Candidates possessing International qualifications must provide assessment by Overseas Qualification Assessment Unit (OQU) from Department of Workforce Development and Training WA or OQU assessment from other State.
