We are establishing a pool of eligible psychologists to be considered for part-time, full-time, permanent, and/or fixed-term school psychologist positions as they become available in our schools and regions across the state.
School psychologists are registered health practitioners who support the work of schools in enhancing student achievement, engagement and wellbeing. They work in a range of diverse education settings with students, school leaders, staff, parents, the community and interagency partners, applying their expertise in mental health, learning, human development, behaviour and school systems.
Whether you are at the beginning of your psychology career or an experienced psychologist looking for a change, becoming a school psychologist makes a real difference in the lives of young people and can take you to amazing places across WA.
Who should apply?
You should apply to this pool for school psychologist opportunities, if you;
- hold (or are eligible for) provisional or general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia; and
- have worked for less than two years (or not at all) in a school psychologist role.
If you have worked as a school psychologist for two years or more, you will need to consider applying to the School Psychologist Pool – Fixed-Term Opportunities.

How the pool works
Lead school psychologists and/or principals may consider applicants whose qualifications, skills, experience, and location preferences match available vacancies. Referees may be contacted to verify your skills/experience.
You must be placed in the pool to accept an Offer of Appointment. An offer may only be made via this pool to eligible and available applicants who are:
- not currently employed on a fixed term basis with the Department for the period of the appointment; or
- employed as a school psychologist, with the Department and the position being offered is permanent, an increased work fraction, or for a longer period of time than the current contract.
If you are currently a permanent employee with the Department of Education, your principal or line manager (e.g. lead school psychologist) will need to approve your release before you can accept a fixed-term appointment at another school or location.
Applying to this Graduate and New Talent School Psychologist Pool does not guarantee appointment. Lead school psychologists and principals may choose to fill vacancies using other options such as local recruitment activities or advertising positions.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted online. Simply select “Apply for Job”, at either the top or bottom of this advertisement and follow the instructions on your screen.
In order to be placed in the pool your application must include the following documents:
- the completed online application form;
- a comprehensive, up-to-date CV;
- identification (i.e. birth certificate, passport, change of name documentation, marriage certificate). Please note we do not accept driver’s licences;
- evidence of eligibility to work in Australia, including Australian or New Zealand citizenship or Australian work permit (e.g. citizenship papers, Australian work visa with date of entry - Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO);
- evidence of your current registration with the Psychology Board of Australia:
- If you are eligible for registration but not currently registered, you will need to provide evidence of your eligibility for registration (e.g. enrolment in the Master of Professional Psychology or higher degree program, or correspondence from the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency confirming your eligibility for registration as a psychologist in Australia);
- academic transcripts identifying your course(s) of study, including copies of undergraduate degrees and any postgraduate qualifications (if applicable). Web printouts are acceptable. Your transcripts must clearly identify:
- your name
- university name
- course name
- units completed
- current enrolment/course completion date; and
- two professional referees - one of which should be your current or most recent line manager where possible. Students and recent graduates may wish to include their university course coordinator and/or placement supervisor as a referee.
Our public schools are located across 8 education regions and offer endless opportunities to live and work in Western Australia. When completing your online application, you will be asked to nominate the regions where you are interested in working. Please only select those regions where you would accept a position.

Eligibility for employment is subject to obtaining a satisfactory Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check through the Department of Education Screening Unit, a valid Working with Children Check and holding provisional or general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. These must be confirmed prior to commencing employment.
