Position Profile

We currently have one (1) permanent full time appointment available for immediate filling.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Chief Veterinary Officer to be part of our Department’s Biosecurity Directorate. The role reports directly to the Executive Director, Biosecurity.

You will play a significant leadership role in the development of livestock and aquatic health and animal welfare policy, risk analysis, pest and disease surveillance, control and eradication at a state and national level. The delivery of credible livestock and aquatic health programs is key to gaining and maintaining market access for West Australia’s multibillion-dollar agricultural industries. This pivotal role will be both challenging and rewarding.

In collaboration with the Executive Director Biosecurity, the Chief Veterinary Officer will provide high-level policy and strategic advice to both the West Australian Government, industry and on national forums, which ensures the protection of the State’s agricultural industries from pests and diseases. This includes ensuring that WA has a high level of capability to contribute to national biosecurity, animal welfare and emergency response programs.

This senior leadership position will suit an influential professional with excellent leadership skills, confidence and authority in making critical decisions, demonstrated resilience and expert knowledge.  The successful applicant will lead, develop and manage a dynamic team in a changing environment.

Eligibility / Other Conditions

A degree in Veterinary Science, registerable with the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Western Australia, is an essential pre-employment requirement.

Prior to appointment, the successful applicant will be required to provide a valid satisfactory National Police Clearance.

This position is located in Perth, Western Australia.
