About the Role

The Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS) Digital Health team is seeking a capable Technology Specialist to provide specialist support for the clinical information systems and technologies that underpin patient care across our service.

This is an exciting opportunity to build your knowledge of medical ICT while contributing to significant digital health initiatives across CAHS, including the implementation of a contemporary Electronic Medical Record (EMR) solution for Intensive Care.

As a Technology Specialist, you will provide Level 2 and Level 3 application support, including system administration, technical troubleshooting, user support, training, testing and User Acceptance Testing (UAT), reporting and vendor liaison. You will investigate and resolve application issues, support system configuration and upgrades, manage user access, and contribute to system improvements and implementation activities.

You will work closely with technical professionals and clinical teams across wards, clinics, the Emergency Department, operating theatres and diagnostic services. Your ability to engage with clinical teams and understand how technology supports their workflows, and ensures high quality patient care and patient safety will be key to success in this role.

Key responsibilities include

  • Managing and supporting the operation, administration and configuration of clinical information systems.
  • Investigating, analysing and resolving application and software issues, including those affecting clinical workflows.
  • Providing onsite technical support to clinical areas to maintain business continuity, system availability and service continuity.
  • Liaising with HSS, vendors, application owners and technical teams to investigate incidents, implement solutions and coordinate system changes.
  • Supporting the assessment and implementation of patches, hot fixes, upgrades and system enhancements.
  • Undertaking application testing and UAT to ensure systems meet clinical and business requirements.
  • Managing user accounts and system access in accordance with security requirements.
  • Developing and delivering training and technical support to clinical and administrative users.
  • Developing and maintaining user guides, training materials and work instructions.
  • Extracting, analysing and presenting data and producing service, activity and operational reports.
  • Supporting reporting requirements, including the maintenance and development of site batch reports.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement, system optimisation and effective lifecycle management of clinical applications.

About You

If you have strong technical and problem-solving skills and understanding of business practices and clinical workflows within a healthcare environment, particularly clinical information management systems, we encourage you to apply.

About the Team  

The Digital Services - Medical & Clinical ICT team provides specialist application and technology support for clinical systems used across Perth Children’s Hospital and associated CAHS services. Working between clinical users, vendors, HSS, Digital Health, infrastructure teams and technical service providers, the team ensures clinical systems remain available, reliable, secure and enable clinicians to deliver safe, effective and high-quality care to children and young people.

Our team design and implement technology solutions and provide support to clinical and administrative end users across various digital systems, platforms and infrastructure including patient management systems, scheduling software, virtual and mobile health applications, medical equipment, imaging software, laboratory, and pharmacy management systems.

About the EMR

Perth Children’s Hospital will be the first paediatric Intensive Care site within WA Health to implement an electronic medical record, presenting a unique opportunity to support the development and implementation of technology that reflects the distinct requirements of paediatric critical care.

This includes supporting clinical workflow design, system configuration, testing and implementation, including the development and maintenance of a paediatric medication formulary and other specialised requirements arising from the differences between adult and paediatric intensive care.
