The Opportunity
Kick-start your career with Main Roads Western Australia as a Technical Officer Materials Trainee and get paid while you learn.
This traineeship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience while studying towards a nationally recognised qualification. You'll work alongside experienced professionals and learn how the materials used to build and maintain WA's roads and bridges are tested to ensure they are safe, durable and fit for purpose.
No two days are the same. One day you might be collecting samples in the field, and the next you could be working in a laboratory, operating specialised testing equipment and helping investigate how different materials perform in real-world conditions.
As part of our team, you'll gain practical skills and valuable industry experience while contributing to projects that help keep people and communities connected across Western Australia.
If you're curious, enjoy solving problems and are looking for a career where you can learn, grow and make a difference, we'd love to hear from you.
As a Technical Officer Materials Trainee, you will:
- learn how to test and assess materials used in road and bridge construction
- assist with laboratory and field investigations
- operate specialised testing equipment and technology
- work with experienced technical professionals on real projects
- develop practical problem-solving, mathematical and analytical skills
- build your knowledge in a supportive team environment
No previous experience is required. We'll provide the training, support and guidance you need to succeed.
What we are looking for:
We are looking for highly motivated individuals with a basic understanding of and interest in maths and physics. You will be a good communicator and have sound problem solving skills. You will enjoy working as part of a team and be willing to get involved and take on new challenges and responsibilities. You will have an interest in contributing to your local community and growing your skills and experience with Main Roads.
Our Offer
The successful applicant will be provided with a two-year fixed-term contract to complete their traineeship.
During this time, you will:
- work full-time while earning a salary and gaining valuable workplace experience
- receive four weeks of paid annual leave each year
