The role
Who you will be working with?
In this role, you'll lead a team of Dangerous Goods professionals at the forefront of Dangerous Goods regulation, compliance, and assurance activities. Your team conducts inspections, audits and assessments, engages directly with industry, provides specialist advice, and works collaboratively with other regulators and agencies to promote safe and compliant Dangerous Goods activities.
Reporting to the Manager Dangerous Goods, you’ll work closely with a collaborative leadership team committed to continuous improvement, operational excellence, and developing people to reach their full potential. As a leader, you’ll play an important role in fostering a positive team culture, building capability, and supporting professional growth, while also guiding complex regulatory and compliance activities across the dangerous goods sector.
This is a highly connected role where you'll build strong relationships with industry, government stakeholders, and internal teams to influence outcomes and support effective, risk-based regulation.
What we can offer you?
At our organisation, you'll have the opportunity to lead a highly skilled team and make a meaningful contribution to improving safety and compliance outcomes across the dangerous goods and explosives industries. This role offers exposure to complex regulatory challenges, strategic decision-making, and collaboration with industry and government stakeholders across Western Australia.
We value flexible ways of working and support arrangements that enable our people to perform at their best while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
What does a typical day look like?
No two days are the same and you will have a high level of autonomy to prioritise your workday. The role combines people leadership, technical expertise, operational problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement.
You may be reviewing complex compliance matters, providing guidance on regulatory decisions, engaging with industry stakeholders onsite, supporting assurance and inspection activities, or working with government partners to address emerging risks. Throughout it all, you'll ensure a consistent, fair and risk-based approach to regulation while supporting your team to deliver high-quality outcomes.
What are we looking for?
We're looking for a strong and confident leader who can provide clear direction, maintain high regulatory standards, and lead a high-performing team in a complex regulatory environment. This role requires someone who is comfortable making difficult decisions, leading compliance and enforcement activities, and supporting their team to deliver fair, consistent, and risk-based regulatory outcomes.
The successful applicant in this role will require resilience, integrity, and the confidence to make difficult decisions, balancing constructive stakeholder engagement with the consistent enforcement of regulatory requirements.
