The Role
Hedland SHS is currently seeking to establish a pool of highly experienced, dynamic, innovative, and proactive Teacher - Year Coordinators to join our whole school Student Support team.
Year Coordinators work collaboratively with the onsite allied support team and wider school staff and community to promote the wellbeing of each student. They support the school in maintaining a positive learning environment where each students’ physical, social, intellectual, and emotional development is fostered, and our students thrive.
In collaboration with the Deputy Principal and Student Support Managers, Year Coordinators review behaviour support processes and lead the implementation of a streamlined framework that is applied effectively and consistently by the whole school. Leading a year group, they work proactively and promote a sense of belonging for all students, work restoratively to resolve conflict, and participative decision-making resulting in improved community relationships and whole school regular attendance.
Depending upon the year group led by you, you will coordinate transition programs, organise activities, rewards and functions. You will provide counsel to students, parent/carers and staff in relation to academic, behavioural, attendance, social and emotional concerns. You will develop, implement, and monitor programs (both in-school and extra-curricular) to maximise student participation. Responsibilities include leading the development and implementation of documented plans to support student engagement and behaviour through all school settings.
The Ideal Teachers
Suitable applicants will ideally possess an ability to implement change at a school wide level and have a deep belief that a positive school culture will support every student to consistently display positive and respectful behaviour. We are seeking excellent classroom practitioners; who can support other staff to refine their classroom management skills within a Positive Behaviour School (PBS) environment. You will ideally be trauma-informed and possess the ability to self-regulate and manage escalated situations with clarity and reason resulting in positive educative outcomes.
As a highly organised practitioner, and with your exceptional collaborative skills, you will liaise with internal and external stakeholders to lead case management for your cohort. Your proven ability to support student leadership will ensure your cohort learns effective communication, active citizenship, community collaboration and decision-making through the various student leadership groups you may oversee. We highly value applicants who are life-long learners, reflective practitioners with a thirst for knowledge, refining skills, striving to improve processes, practices and improved outcomes.
