The Role

Harrisdale SHS is seeking a passionate, knowledgeable and highly effective Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) teacher to join our high-performing HASS learning area. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a thriving and growing school community that values academic excellence, high-quality teaching and learning, critical thinking and active citizenship.

The successful applicant will ideally have experience teaching HASS across Years 7 to 12 and display a strong commitment to improving student learning and achievement. Experience teaching senior secondary ATAR HASS courses is highly desirable, along with the capacity to prepare students for success in rigorous school-based and external assessments. Applicants with experience in ATAR Economics, Modern History, Geography or Politics and Law are particularly encouraged to apply.

We are seeking an outstanding classroom practitioner who ideally:

• Displays strong curriculum knowledge and delivers high-quality programs that develop disciplinary knowledge, critical inquiry and evidence-based reasoning;
• Establishes a culture of high expectations in which students are challenged, engaged and supported to achieve their personal best;
• Uses high-impact teaching strategies aligned with Harrisdale Senior High School’s THINK, RISE, EXCEL framework to support strong student progress and achievement;
• Designs inclusive and differentiated learning experiences that respond to students’ diverse needs, strengths and aspirations;
• Uses student performance data, effective assessment and actionable feedback to monitor progress and improve outcomes;
• Is committed to reflective practice, professional learning and the continuous improvement of teaching effectiveness;
• Builds positive relationships and contributes actively to a collaborative, supportive and high-performing team; and
• Displays the school’s values of Care, Respect, Responsibility and Excellence, including through contributions to pastoral care and co-curricular programs.

This role sits within our large and high-performing HASS learning area, which is recognised for its strong culture of collaboration, instructional excellence and commitment to continuous improvement. The successful applicant will join a team focused on delivering high-quality teaching and learning across Years 7 to 12, with opportunities to contribute to our successful Senior School ATAR program and participate in curriculum development, moderation processes and evidence-informed practice.

There may also be opportunities to contribute to HASS enrichment and extension activities that extend learning beyond the classroom, strengthen student engagement and build aspiration.
