We are seeking to establish a pool of Teacher – The Gifted and Talented Online (GATE) online for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2027 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Thanks to the use of innovative technology, students living in regional Western Australia can access the Gifted and Talented Online Program without relocating to Perth. The program can be accessed at any regional public secondary school outside of the Bunbury or Albany region. The program for Years 7 to 10 students is delivered from Perth Modern School. Entrance to the program is only available by examination administered by the Gifted and Talented Selection Unit at the Department of Education. The program currently has approximately 80 students (Years 7 to 10) from ~30 schools across Western Australia. The program delivers differentiated curriculum within an online learning community of like-minded peers who enjoy being challenged and connecting with each other. Children study 2-4 subjects online with other gifted students whilst enrolled in their local regional school. 

An initiative of the Department of Education, programs of study are offered in Mathematics, Science, English and Humanities & Social Sciences (HASS). Students usually enter either the mathematics and science stream or the humanities stream (English and HASS). A number of students choose to pursue studies in both streams, when offered the opportunity mid-Year 7 or at the commencement of Year 8. Children study with other gifted students and follow a differentiated curriculum designed specifically for their needs. The GT Online curriculum is differentiated to cater for the needs of gifted students using three broad approaches: acceleration, extension, and enrichment.

The Role

The GATE Program is seeking dynamic, motivated, organised, and culturally responsive teachers who exhibit innovation and creativity in classroom practices. Due to the nature of online delivery, high level instructional and questioning skills are highly regarded, along with the ability to motivate students in a distance learning environment, to think outside the box and the willingness to be flexible and help the students become self-disciplined and effective time managers.

Suitable applicants should employ exemplary practice in the use of both synchronous (Webex) and asynchronous (Moodle) platforms of instruction and could troubleshoot basic technical issues, if required.

The Selective Academic Online Program provides exemplary learning programs that are tailored to the needs of gifted and talented students. These programs engage and support students to achieve their potential in academic subjects through the delivery of a differentiated, challenging and extended curriculum. Staff provide a broad range of learning experiences, including overnight camps. An understanding of gifted education is highly desirable and specialist learning area knowledge is desirable. A strong understanding of curriculum in two or more learning areas is desirable. We are establishing a pool for the learning areas below:

• Mathematics

• English
• HASS
