The School
Maddington Education Support Centre (MESC) provides a supportive, inclusive and nurturing learning environment where every student is valued, respected and recognised as an individual. Guided by our school motto, “We encourage every child to reach their full potential,” we are committed to fostering the academic, social and emotional growth of every learner. Our highly skilled and dedicated staff possess extensive expertise in special education and are committed to delivering evidence-based teaching practices that meet the diverse needs of our students. Teachers design and implement tailored learning programs that accommodate a range of learning styles and needs, including the integration of specialised programs and recommendations from external service providers and allied health professionals.
All classrooms operate using a structured rotational model, enabling students to receive intensive one-to-one instruction and targeted support aligned with their Individual Education Program (IEP) goals. This approach promotes engagement, maximises learning opportunities and supports positive student outcomes. MESC places a strong emphasis on the development of foundational literacy and numeracy skills. The school prioritises the implementation of the Letters and Sounds approach and the Joondalup Foundational Skills Assessment (JFSA) framework, ensuring a rigorous and data-informed approach to teaching that aligns with the Western Australian Curriculum.
Located on a shared campus with Maddington Primary School, MESC values opportunities for collaboration and partnership, working closely with the primary school community to enhance educational experiences and outcomes for all students where appropriate.

As a suitable applicant, you should exhibit a commitment to evidence-based and innovative teaching practices and possess the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team. Opportunities to lead initiatives and contribute to whole-school improvement processes are highly valued.
Due to our individualised student support model, teachers are required to work across a range of age groups and learning needs. MESC operates a rotation-based program centred on the delivery of students' Individual Education Program (IEP) goals through intensive one-to-one instruction. As such, successful applicants should be adaptable and confident in working with students across all year levels, presenting with a diverse range of disabilities and learning profiles.
MESC is committed to providing safe, supportive and inclusive learning environments where every student can achieve success. We explicitly teach self-regulation strategies and support students to develop the skills required to recognise and manage their emotions. Our school values underpin all aspects of teaching and learning and are embedded within our highly structured one-to-one rotation program, which incorporates Direct Instruction methodologies.
It is highly desirable that applicants possess experience and knowledge in supporting students with special educational needs, particularly those requiring Tier 3 interventions within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework. Experience working with students with complex learning, behavioural and communication needs will be highly regarded.

In addition, a strong understanding of the Letters and Sounds literacy approach and its implementation within an Education Support context is highly desirable. Knowledge and experience in administering and utilising data from the Joondalup Foundational Skills Assessment (JFSA) and the Sandwell Early Numeracy Assessment to inform teaching and intervention programs will also be highly regarded.
MESC caters for students with a range of intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
