The Role

We are ideally looking for a motivated and passionate Education Support Teachers, committed to achieving the best educational outcomes for our students. You would work as part of a dedicated team and have the opportunity to make a lasting contribution to the school community. We have 8 classrooms dedicated to our endorsed education support program that are integrated throughout the whole school site.

Ideally you will have knowledge of working with children with a range of disabilities including Intellectual Disability, physical disabilities and high needs Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Suitable applicants should possess knowledge of the Australian Curriculum and Abilities Based Learning Education (ABLEWA). Experience in the use of Reporting to Parents and creating Individual Education Plans is desirable.  You would be required to promote, model and maintain high expectations and adhere to whole school strategies that are evidence based and supported by research. Proficiency in the use of various assessment and reporting methods that show student achievement in relation to learning outcomes is important as well as the ability to plan purposeful, relevant and authentic learning experiences that cater for diverse student needs. At SPS we use programs such as Letters and Sounds, Heggerty Phonological and Phonemic Awareness, and TEACCH.

Communication is a top priority for our students. Classroom teachers would be expected to use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) such as visuals, Key word signs and PODD (Pragmatic Organised Dynamic Display) as well as students own communication devices.

Each class has a team of advanced and special needs education assistants who work under the direction of the class teacher to meet the diverse needs of our students. Teachers would need to display the ability to lead and support the staff in their team. This may include organising regular meetings, providing information and feedback.

The ability to establish genuine, positive and caring relationships with our students should be imperative to this role. Our whole school approaches such as Team Teach, Zones of Regulation and Protective Behaviours ensures each student is engaged, respected, belongs and feels connected to school.

Our teachers actively participate in curriculum teams they are passionate about. At SPS we are focused on creating high performing teams to impact student outcomes. We use DiSC profiling, GROWTH coaching and Patrick Lencioni’s model of reference. Applicants should display the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Teachers also work closely with many allied health professionals, parents and caregivers and the school psychologist.
