The Role

The Design and Technologies department at Ashdale SC is a dynamic and growing team that values innovation, collaboration and excellence in teaching and learning.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Design and Technologies Teacher who is committed to inspiring students through contemporary, industry-relevant learning experiences and practical problem-solving opportunities.

The successful applicant will ideally have experience delivering the Western Australian Curriculum and Schools Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) courses across a range of Design and Technologies contexts. The ability to teach ATAR Engineering Studies, particularly within a mechatronics context, would be highly desirable.

Ashdale SC’s Teaching and Learning Framework, LEARN and GROW, underpins the high-quality teaching and learning that occurs throughout the College. The successful applicant will ideally show a commitment to reflective practice, utilise evidence-informed teaching strategies and create engaging learning environments that enable students to achieve their personal best. They will ideally be capable of designing authentic learning experiences that foster creativity, innovation, critical thinking and entrepreneurial skills, while developing students’ understanding of engineering design processes and emerging technologies.

The Technologies learning area offers a broad range of pathways for students from Years 7 to 12. Current programs include Mechatronics, Screen to Machine Engineering, Woodwork, Metalwork and Jewellery, together with ATAR Engineering Studies, a comprehensive range of General pathway courses and several nationally recognised Certificate qualifications. As student interest and enrolments continue to grow, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of these programs.

The desired applicant should possess strong technical skills, including experience in the use of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software to support the development of student products through laser cutting and 3D printing technologies. The ability to source, manage and procure specialised resources and equipment required to deliver highly engaging mechatronics and engineering programs will be highly regarded.

With effective interpersonal skills, the successful applicant will ideally work collaboratively with students, colleagues, industry partners and the wider community to achieve positive educational outcomes. Applicants with the capacity to develop and lead additional enrichment opportunities, such as a robotics program, are encouraged to apply, as these initiatives would further strengthen student engagement and extend pathways in engineering, automation and future-focused technologies.

At Ashdale SC, there is a clear focus on high standards of student achievement and continuous improvement. Teaching staff play a key role in school planning processes through the analysis of student performance data, the development and implementation of improvement strategies, and the application of evidence-based practices to enhance student outcomes. The successful applicant will ideally show a commitment to ongoing professional growth and a willingness to contribute to the broader life of the College.

The desired candidate will ideally be passionate about Design and Technologies, committed to fostering student success, and eager to contribute to a vibrant and supportive learning area that encourages both staff and students to thrive.
