Lynwood Senior High School is an Independent Public School catering for students in Years 7 to 12. Our inclusive school community is committed to the care, wellbeing and academic success of every student. The school's Intensive English Centre (IEC) provides a supportive and culturally responsive learning environment for newly arrived students in Years 7 to 10 from diverse cultural, linguistic and educational backgrounds.
IEC students are resilient and motivated learners who are developing Standard Australian English while engaging with an adapted Western Australian Curriculum. Some students may have experienced trauma, interrupted or limited prior schooling, displacement, family separation or significant cultural and educational transitions. Staff work collaboratively with students, families, interpreters, school teams and external agencies to support each student's learning, wellbeing and successful transition into mainstream schooling and the wider community.

The Role
Lynwood Senior High School is seeking a compassionate and culturally responsive Student Support Worker to join our IEC. Working collaboratively with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) students, families and staff, you will help newly arrived young people build a sense of belonging, engage in learning and prepare for transition into mainstream schooling. You will assist in coordinating support programs and work with the student case management team to identify and assess areas of risk and develop responsive intervention strategies that address barriers to wellbeing, attendance and participation. Working directly with individual students and education staff, you will contribute to the planning, delivery and monitoring of individualised support strategies that enable students to access learning and address their social, emotional and settlement needs.
As the IEC Student Support Worker, you will bring an understanding of settlement challenges and the impact of displacement, interrupted schooling and trauma. You will support teachers and students with practical strategies for recognising stress responses, managing stress and anger, and responding to the effects of trauma. Building trusting relationships with families and strengthening partnerships with community organisations, refugee support agencies and health and education services will be central to your work, helping students and families access appropriate support.
The successful applicant will ideally display skills and experience in identifying problems, resolving conflict and negotiating practical solutions. You should be able to work autonomously, collaborate with colleagues and liaise effectively at all levels, including contributing to multidisciplinary meetings and case conferences. Strong communication and organisational skills, sensitivity to diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, and the ability to maintain accurate, confidential records will support your contribution to monitoring interventions, undertaking projects and preparing written reports.
