We are seeking to establish a pool of Student Support Officers for permanent and fixed-term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2027 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Carson Street School is Western Australia’s only Education Support Primary School, providing a highly specialised and supportive learning environment for early childhood and primary-aged students with moderate, severe and profound multiple disabilities. Many students also have complex medical, sensory and communication needs, and benefit from highly individualised programs, specialist teaching, assistive technology and dedicated adult support throughout the school day. Learning is tailored to each student’s strengths, needs and goals, with a strong focus on participation, independence, communication and quality of life. Students remain at the school until the year they turn 11.
The school’s specialist Conductive Education program attracts families from across the metropolitan area. Communication is central to learning at Carson Street School, with students supported to express themselves through a range of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) approaches, including Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display (PODD). The school is committed to creating meaningful opportunities for every student to connect, communicate, learn and thrive.

The Role
As a Student Support Officer, you will ideally work closely with the Deputy Principal, Student Services Coordinator, school staff, families and external stakeholders to provide responsive and practical support for students and families. The role includes contributing to the planning, implementation and review of behaviour support plans, evidence-based interventions and programs that strengthen student engagement, wellbeing and participation in learning.
Experience supporting students with complex behaviours is highly regarded, along with an understanding of trauma-informed and relationship-based approaches. Suitable applicants should contribute to collaborative problem-solving, inclusive whole-school practices and targeted supports that assist with complex behaviour support, emotional regulation and student wellbeing. Strong relationship-building skills are also highly valued, particularly when working with students, families and staff across a range of backgrounds and situations.
The role also includes collecting and reviewing behavioural and wellbeing data to help monitor the effectiveness of interventions and inform ongoing improvement within the school’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework. Suitable applicants will ideally bring sound organisation, initiative and adaptability, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team focused on reducing barriers to engagement and supporting positive student outcomes.
