The new Urban Greening and Bushland Planning Directorate within the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage is seeking a Senior Policy Planner within the Bushland Planning team.
This role has a specialist focus on bushland, biodiversity and native vegetation planning and policy, including the Bush Forever program, with an emphasis on addressing habitat conservation through land use planning policy and practice.
This is a permanent, full-time position however, consideration may be given to applicants seeking part-time opportunities. This process may be used to fill future similar permanent or fixed-term positions that may arise within the Department and across the WA public sector in the next 12 months from the initial date of appointment.
We are seeking a colleague with a strong interest in environmental planning who enjoys finding solutions for integrating nature and wildlife habitat into urban and regional areas, and who enjoys working constructively with a diverse range of community and professional stakeholders.
Applicants need to demonstrate that they meet the following position requirements:
- A degree in Urban and/or Regional Planning or relevant to, including Geography, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management or Sustainable Development.
- Comprehensive experience in a complex environmental planning public policy environment including but not limited to the provision of strategic advice relevant to land use planning, environmental science or natural resource management.
- Considerable experience in managing significant, complex projects or leading policy development and review.
- Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to present complex and technical information to broad range of internal and external stakeholders and positively influence to achieve the desired policy outcomes.
- Demonstrate the behaviours within the leadership context as outlined below.
Core leadership behaviours outlined in Leadership Expectations are applicable to this role and should be demonstrated in the context of Personal Leadership. The Personal Leadership context is about the work of individuals not yet in traditional leadership positions who make a direct and immediate difference to the agency. The expected behaviours may be assessed during the recruitment and selection process.
