The Office of Major Infrastructure Delivery (OMID) is responsible for planning, procurement, financing, and delivery of the State’s major infrastructure.  As the lead agency for social and non-residential infrastructure, OMID delivers high value (exceeding $100 million), highly complex or high-risk projects across the health, justice, cultural, sporting, emergency services, and primary industry sectors.  

It brings together the best of program and project management, procurement, contract management, finance, commercial, stakeholder engagement, communications, sustainability, and governance to ensure Western Australia’s infrastructure is built safely, sustainably and with maximum public benefit.

OMID delivers projects that make a real difference to every Western Australian with new hospitals, sports, culture and entertainment centres, transport upgrades and training, justice and research facilities.

OMID is a part of the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI), which is responsible for coordinating the State’s transport operations, leading strategic planning and policy development, and delivering safe and sustainable transport services as part of the wider Transport Portfolio.

The Opportunity

Are you ready to lead communications for the infrastructure projects that shape Western Australia’s future? 

We’re building a talent pool of Senior Communications Specialists to drive strategic project communications and engagement for major infrastructure initiatives across WA. As a Senior Communications Specialist, you will be the trusted advisor, understanding impacted community and crafting timely and accurate communication while managing stakeholder relationships, you will ensure transparency across complex, high-profile projects. 

You’ll combine agility with critical thinking to develop strategies and action plans to raise awareness of construction impacts and project benefits.  Consulting and working closely with project teams, you will develop content that resonates across multiple channels. From risk management to community engagement, your expertise will help keep stakeholders informed and connected.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the development and implementation of project communication strategies that align with OMID’s Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Frameworks.
  • Provide strategic advice to senior leaders and project directors, working closely with project teams to identify communications.
  • Produce high-quality written material for diverse audiences, including reports, presentations and Ministerials.  
  • Manage complex engagement activities and diverse stakeholders across community and government.
  • Support risk and issues management, including crisis communication when required.

There is currently 1x fixed term full-time position available for immediate appointment, until 30 June 2029, with the possibility of extension(s) or permanency.

Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments will be made for this or similar future vacancies (fixed term or permanent) that arise within the next (twelve) 12 months from date of first appointment across DTMI.

The Ideal Candidate

The panel will be assessing applicants against the following suitability requirements:

  • Comprehensive knowledge and skills in contemporary communications channels and methods, and the ability to keep current knowledge on emerging communication trends and use.
  • Expert verbal and written communication skills, together with the ability to engage, liaise and influence a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Expert writing and editing skills with the ability to craft communications under pressure and provide effective strategic communications and stakeholder advice.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to work closely with project directors, senior management, ministerial offices and across the media.
  • Well-developed conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly developed planning and Organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines and prioritise competing demands.
  • Ability to work effectively and autonomously within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to travel and work at different locations as required.
