Job Description

The Kings Park Science Program undertakes research in native plant biology, underpinning the conservation and ecological restoration of Western Australia's unique biodiversity. Our research is focused on restoration ecology and ecophysiology, seed science, conservation genetics, conservation biotechnology, ecosystem ecology, fire ecology and systematics.

We are currently seeking a Research Scientist (Seed Conservation) or Senior Research Scientist (Seed Conservation) to join our team.

Provide scientific advice to support and improve the management of departmental germplasm conservation programs. Lead and contribute to the publication of research in peer reviewed scientific papers. Supervise laboratory and field technicians to support delivery of research projects. Build the expertise and capacity of seed science programs by identifying and developing strategies to enhance partnerships and funding streams for seed conservation and research.

At DBCA, we have adopted Leadership Expectations which provides a common understanding of the mindsets and expected behaviours required of all our employees and the public sector. In this role, you will be Leading Others to help drive positive change.

  2. Demonstrated broad (SC2) or extensive (SC3) knowledge and experience relevant to the design and management of laboratory-and field-based experimental research projects in seed conservation and utilisation, including the ability to independently analyse and interpret data and deliver evidence-based conservation outcomes.

  3. Well-developed (SC2) or high level (SC3) written and verbal communication skills including the ability to lead publication of scientific papers in peer reviewed journals, prepare technical reports and guidelines and to communicate scientific and technical material to a broad audience.

  4. Demonstrated ability to contribute to (SC2) or lead (SC3) the preparation of research funding proposals to build and enhance program outcomes.

  5. Well-developed (SC2) or high level (SC3) interpersonal skills including the ability to operate effectively in a collaborative research team and to build effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
