About the role
The Policy Officer plays an important role in supporting the Sheriff’s Office through the research, analysis, and development of policy initiatives that contribute to the delivery of statewide services and strategic priorities.
Working in a dynamic environment, the role undertakes policy research, evaluation, and analysis to inform decision-making and support continuous improvement. The position is responsible for preparing high-quality briefings, reports, and other written communications, translating complex information into clear and practical advice.
The Policy Officer also works closely with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, building collaborative relationships and contributing to the development of effective, evidence-based policy outcomes that support the Sheriff’s Office in meeting current and future operational needs.
The Sheriff’s Office of Western Australia plays a vital role in supporting the justice system and community safety across the State. Our responsibilities include:
- Enforcing civil court orders
- Enforcing fines, penalties and infringement notices
- Serving witness summonses on behalf of the State
- Delivering court and tribunal security and custodial services
- Managing jury services across Western Australia.
Suitability Requirements
Through the recruitment process, we will be looking for candidates who can demonstrate skills, experience and attributes in relation to the following:

- Communicates and Influences Effectively - well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare high-quality briefings, reports and correspondence, and present complex information in a clear, concise and practical manner to support informed decision-making.
