The Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI) is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to join our Freight, Ports, Aviation and Reform (FPAR) directorate as a Policy and Project Manager (Level 7).

The Opportunity

As a Policy and Project Manager (Level 7), you will operate in the leadership context of Leading Others, influencing outcomes through strategic leadership, stakeholder engagement and the coordination of multidisciplinary work across government and industry.

You will:

• Lead the development and delivery of complex policy, strategy and reform initiatives.
• Manage strategic projects that influence transport outcomes across Western Australia.
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with stakeholders across government, industry and regional communities.
• Provide high-quality strategic advice to senior executives, Ministers and Government.
• Analyse emerging issues, risks and opportunities and translate them into practical policy solutions.
• Represent the Department in interagency forums, working groups and high-level stakeholder engagements.
• Lead, coach and develop staff to foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
• This is a strategic role focused on shaping future transport outcomes and influencing policy direction. It is not an operational role responsible for day-to-day transport management.

This is a six-month fixed-term opportunity, with the possibility of extension or permanency. Suitable applicants identified through this recruitment process may be considered for further employment opportunities in this or similar roles for a period of up to 12 months.

The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for a strategic and collaborative professional who enjoys working on complex policy challenges, building strong relationships and influencing outcomes that matter.

You will bring:

• Demonstrated experience developing and implementing policy, strategy or major projects.
• Demonstrated leadership capability, including the ability to provide direction, build capability and achieve outcomes through collaboration, influence and shared accountability.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management capabilities, with experience working across government, industry or community sectors.
• Well-developed analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to distil complex issues into practical advice and clear recommendations.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare high-quality briefings, reports and strategic advice.
• Experience navigating complex environments, balancing competing priorities and supporting informed decision-making.

Experience in transport, infrastructure, logistics, public policy, economic development, regulation, planning or related sectors will be highly regarded.
