About the Midwife Role

As a Midwife with KEMH, you will play a vital role in delivering high‑quality, evidence‑based, woman‑centred care across a dynamic clinical environment.

About the Clinical Midwife Role

As a Clinical Midwife, you will use advanced clinical experience, skills and a strong capability in leading, supporting and influencing teams within a complex healthcare environment to care for patients and families within KEMH.

You will:

• Utilise advanced clinical skills and experience to provide excellence in clinical care.
• Mentor, coach and support midwifery staff to build capability and confidence.
• Lead, influence and support teams in a tertiary clinical setting.
• Foster a positive, respectful and high‑performing team culture.
• Lead quality improvement, clinical governance and patient safety initiatives.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary leaders to enhance service delivery using advanced communication and interpersonal skills.

About Us – King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH)

KEMH is part of the Women and Newborn Health Service (WNHS) and provides world‑class care for women, newborns and families across Western Australia. KEMH has more than 60 Endorsed Midwives working across the organisation ensuring Midwives are able to work to their full scope and enhancing the patient experience. 

• WA’s only tertiary maternity and gynaecological hospital.
• Over 6,000 births each year.
• Statewide referral centre for high‑risk pregnancies.
• Home of specialised services including Maternal Fetal Medicine, Pregnancy Choice and Abortion Care, Pregnancy Loss Service, Women and Newborn Drug and Alcohol Service, Adolescent and Diabetes services caring for the high-risk population in WA.
• KEMH encompasses all midwifery models of care with opportunities to work within CMP, MGP, MAPS and complex multi-disciplinary teams.
• Home to a state‑of‑the‑art Special Care Nursery.
• Comprehensive gynaecological services supporting around 5,000 women annually.

KEMH also manages key statewide programs, including BreastScreen WA, and other specialist services supporting women and babies across the state.

For the Midwife position:

• Experience delivering evidence‑based midwifery care within a clinical setting.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), and your ability to work effectively within a collegiate, multidisciplinary team.
• Capacity to adapt to change in a dynamic clinical environment, using effective problem‑solving and decision‑making strategies.
• Knowledge and experience in the quality improvement cycle and patient safety initiatives.

For the Clinical Midwife Position:

• Your relevant advanced clinical skills, focusing on excellence in clinical care.
• Your experience in providing clinical leadership consistent with the organisational values and behaviours.
• Your communication, interpersonal skills, negotiation and conflict resolution skills and the ability to work in a collegiate environment.
• Your experience of adapting to changes in the workplace, focusing on how you motivate your colleagues to achieve excellence.
• Knowledge of Midwifery standards and commitment to excellence in patient care demonstrating an ability to undertake quality improvement activities and customer service.

You will be asked what role you are applying for when uploading your documentation. You will also be asked to provide details of your current Australian working rights, AHPRA registration, ANMAC approval, etc where relevant.

What happens next

Successful Midwives will be placed in a pool for appointment to suitable vacancies arising before 30 September 2027.
