Establish South Regional TAFE's Project Management Office and lead a $5M+ portfolio of nationally significant projects

About the role
This is not a traditional project management role.

South Regional TAFE has secured almost $5 million in Commonwealth and State funding to deliver strategic initiatives that will shape the future of vocational education and training, workforce development, industry engagement and student success across regional Western Australia.

We are seeking an experienced and highly capable project leader to establish our Project Management Office (PMO) and lead the delivery of a diverse portfolio of strategic projects.

The portfolio includes the National TAFE Network (NTN) Industry Embedded Campus Project, National Skills Agreement (NSA) initiatives and other high-profile projects that have regional, state and national significance.

A significant component of this role also involves leading applied research activities that support innovation across the vocational education and training sector. You will:

• Lead applied research and stakeholder engagement activities that inform innovation and workforce development initiatives.
• Translate research and evaluation findings into practical frameworks, tools and strategic recommendations.
• Develop scalable, evidence-based solutions that improve organisational and sector-wide outcomes.

Reporting directly to the Executive Director Capability and Partnerships, you will work closely with Directors, senior managers, industry leaders, government agencies, national TAFE partners and community stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered successfully and create lasting benefits for the vocational education sector.

What you’ll be doing
You will provide leadership across a complex portfolio of strategic projects by:

• Establishing and leading South Regional TAFE's Project Management Office capability.
• Managing multiple funded projects simultaneously from initiation through to evaluation and benefits realisation.
• Ensuring delivery of project milestones, contractual obligations and funding requirements.
• Developing governance frameworks, reporting systems, assurance processes and project controls.
• Leading applied research, evaluation and evidence-based project activities.
• Building project management capability across the College.
• Coordinating project staff operating within matrix reporting arrangements.
• Managing strategic relationships with industry, government agencies, community organisations and TAFE partners.
• Providing high-quality advice, reports and recommendations to senior leaders and executives.
• Supporting the development of future strategic funding opportunities and partnerships.

What we’re looking for
We're looking for someone who combines strategic thinking with practical delivery expertise.

You will bring:

• Significant experience leading complex projects, programs or strategic initiatives.
• Experience leading or managing applied research, evaluation, policy development or evidence-based projects.
• Demonstrated ability to translate research findings into practical frameworks, tools, recommendations and organisational outcomes.
• Experience establishing governance frameworks, project management offices or organisational project management capability.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to influence across government, industry and education sectors.
• Experience managing externally funded projects, including milestone reporting, acquittals and compliance requirements.
• Exceptional written communication skills, including preparation of executive reports, business cases, briefing notes and strategic recommendations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.

Experience within government, education, training, workforce development or related sectors will be highly regarded.
